Happy 102nd Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye!

October 29, 2025

My dear friends, and proud members of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations,

It is a profound honor to celebrate with you the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye — a republic born from courage, built on ideals, and sustained by the unyielding will of its people.

On October 29, 1923, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stood before the world and declared, “ The Turkish nation has taken its destiny into its own hands. ” That moment changed history.

A nation once thought broken, rose again — not through privilege or inheritance, but through sacrifice, intellect, and faith in the power of its people. Today, we remember that the Republic was not gifted to us — it was earned. It was earned on the battlefields of Gallipoli, Sakarya, and Dumlupınar. It was earned by teachers who lit the first classrooms of a new nation, by farmers who rebuilt villages, and by the women who stepped forward to claim their rightful place as equals in shaping the future.

Atatürk’s vision was not just to establish a new state — it was to build a modern, secular, and democratic Republic where reason, education, and equality would guide progress. He believed deeply that the true revolution was not sought on the battlefield, but in the hearts and minds of the people.

And at the center of that vision stood the next generation — the youth. He said “ All my hopes are in the youth ”. He trusted them to protect the Republic, to think freely, to question, to create, and to carry the nation forward with knowledge and integrity.

As we mark 102 years of that great vision, we must ask ourselves:

How do we honor it today?

We honor it by protecting truth over distortion, unity over division, and hope over despair. We honor it by teaching our children the values of reason, respect, and responsibility — the same values that made our Republic strong. We honor it by standing together, no matter wherever in the world we live, as one Turkish Community bound by shared heritage and shared pride.

As the Turkish Americans, we carry the torch of the Republic across the oceans. We are its ambassadors — not only of culture, but of the principles that define it: freedom, equality, and justice for all.

Every act of kindness, every success in our communities, every defense of truth — adds another light to the Republic’s enduring flame. As Atatürk said, “ The Republic needs defenders, not inheritors.”

So let us be those defenders — with our voices, our actions, and our unity. Today, as we celebrate 102 years of the Turkish Republic, let our hearts be filled with gratitude — for those who built it, for those who preserved it, and for those of us who continue to carry it forward.

May the Republic of Türkiye forever shine bright — a symbol of resilience, of progress, and of unbreakable national spirit.

Yaşasın Cumhuriyet!

Long live the Republic of Türkiye!
